How to read the new bookmakers tracker

The table above lists real-event betting licences from the Gambling Commission’s public register, newest first, with every domain the licence holder has declared. In our snapshot of 29 October 2026 there were 180 active remote betting licence holders. Of those, 52 took a remote betting licence for the first time in the last 24 months. Another 18 were existing operators that added betting to the permissions they already held.

That split matters, because “new bookmakers UK” can mean three different things depending on who is talking. A marketing page usually means a brand you have not seen before. The register means a company that has been granted something. And a punter usually means a site that has opened its doors in the last year or two. The licence tracker shows you the register version, so it is worth knowing how to translate it.

The same goes for the phrases around it. A list of brand new bookmakers, of new online bookmakers or of the newest UK bookmakers is, in practice, a list of first-time licence holders plus the new brands that older companies open on their existing licence. The tracker covers the first group in full. The second group, the new brands on established licences, is what our new betting sites shortlist compares, offer by offer.

New licence, new brand, added domain or brand transfer

Four kinds of change show up in the data, and only one of them reliably means a new bookmaker you can sign up to.

The last row is the one that trips people up. A licence date tells you when the company was licensed, not when the brand first appeared. skybet.com sitting near the top of a list of new licences does not make it a new bookmaker in any sense a customer would recognise. We keep those entries in the licence tracker because they are on the register, but you should read them as housekeeping.

A brand transfer works the other way round. The site looks exactly the same to you, but the company you have a contract with has changed. If you ever need to raise a complaint, the licence holder named in the current terms is the one that counts.

Licence types on the register

A remote betting licence is not one thing. The register lists the specific activities a company is allowed to carry on, and three of them matter here.

General Betting Standard - Real Event covers fixed-odds bets on real sport and events: football, racing, tennis and the rest. Almost every betting site a customer would call a bookmaker holds this one, and it is the licence type our tracker filters on.

General Betting Standard - Virtual Event covers bets on computer-generated events, the virtual horse races and football matches that run every few minutes. Some companies hold this on its own because they only offer virtuals inside a casino product.

Pool Betting covers bets where the stakes go into a pool and are shared among winners, rather than paid at fixed odds. A pool licence on its own does not mean a company offers ordinary fixed-odds betting.

There is also the remote and non-remote distinction. Remote means online and by phone; non-remote means a betting shop. Every entry in our tracker is a remote licence, because that is what you need to take bets on a website.

Why some licence holders list no domain

Six of the companies in our list of newest real-event licences have no domain against them, including West Gaming Limited, Red Rock Managed Services Limited, Playquarry Limited, Kairos Edge Limited and Planet Bet Limited. That is not suspicious in itself. Some are licensed and still building their product. Others supply services to another operator and never take a bet under their own name. A few will hold a licence for a while and never launch at all.

What it does mean is that a name on the register is not proof a site exists, and a site claiming to be run by one of these companies needs a second look. If the domain you are on is not listed against the licence, treat that as a question worth answering before you deposit.

How to check a bookmaker’s domain yourself

You do not need to take our word, or anyone else’s. The check takes a couple of minutes:

1. Scroll to the footer of the betting site and find the company name and the licence number.
2. Open the public register on the Gambling Commission website and search for that company name or licence number.
3. Confirm the licence status is active, not suspended, revoked or surrendered.
4. Open the list of domains on the licence and find the exact web address you are using.
5. Check the licensed activities include remote betting, ideally General Betting Standard - Real Event if you want to bet on sport.

If the company appears but your domain does not, it may be a recent addition the register has not caught up with. Bear in mind that not every licence holder lists every domain promptly. We give a site the benefit of that doubt in our own scoring, but only partly, as explained on how we rate new betting sites.

Independent UK bookmakers and sister sites

People searching for new independent bookmakers usually want a firm that is not one more badge on a big group’s portfolio. The register is quite good for spotting this. Look at how many domains sit under one licence holder. L & L Europe Limited lists quickbet.co.uk alongside six other domains, all casino brands, so QuickBet is a new betting site from an established stable. J R & S Leisure Ltd, by contrast, lists betvickers.co.uk and betvickers.com and nothing else.

Neither is better by default. A larger stable can mean tested payment systems; a small independent can mean more attention per customer. But it changes how you think about offers and complaints, which we cover in our piece on white label betting sites. One small thing we noticed while building the tracker: the newest entry is Ballyhack Sports and Gaming (BSG) Limited, licensed on 28 July 2026 with rambobet.co.uk. For a brand that new, the register entry is often the first public trace you will find, so it is worth checking back here before you go looking for reviews.
