Tote Review: A Racing Offer for a £5 Bet

Tote is an established racing brand, online since 2020 on our record, not a new bookmaker. Its sign up offer is the only one on our list built around racing.

Tote is the bookmaker to choose on our racecard if you mainly bet on horse racing. It scored 3.6 out of 5, helped by a welcome offer that returns £20 for a £5 bet and a domain listed on the Gambling Commission register. It is held back by a stated payout window of 72 to 120 hours, the slowest starting point we record, and only two withdrawal methods, neither of them PayPal. Our research records the brand online since 2020, and it is an established name in British racing, so it sits in our established group rather than among the new betting sites.

If you want the newest brands instead, start with the debutants on our new betting sites list.

The Tote sign up offer

The offer is Bet £5 & Get £20 in Free Bets, split as £10 in Tote Credit for racing and £10 in sports bets. New customers sign up and place a first qualifying bet of at least £5 at odds of 1/1 (2.0) or bigger, on either sports or racing. An each-way qualifying bet needs at least £5 win plus £5 place. The rewards are credited whether the bet wins or loses.

Tote Credit expires 7 days after it is credited. The short terms do not give an expiry for the £10 sports bets, so check the full terms. Tote’s help pages add that Tote Credit cannot be used on fixed-odds sports bets such as football or rugby, so half of the offer only works for racing. That is fine if racing is why you are here, and less useful if it is not.

A 4:1 return on stake earned the maximum 1 on our offer value check, and minimum odds of 2.0 with a 7-day expiry scored 0.8 on terms. Our record notes one inconsistency: the bonus record gives a minimum deposit of 5 while the account record gives £10, so assume £10 until the cashier says otherwise. Full short terms are in the listing on our sign up offers page, and racing-focused brands are compared on our new horse racing betting sites page.

Who runs Tote

The licence holder is TDCO Limited. On our register snapshot its account lists one domain, tote.co.uk, and its licence covers pool betting, casino, gambling software and real-event and virtual betting. Pool betting is the difference worth knowing: on a Tote pool bet your stake goes into a pool shared among the winners, so the final dividend is not fixed when you bet. Its sports betting, by contrast, works at fixed prices; Tote’s help pages say the price shown on your selection is the price you get.

Because tote.co.uk is matched to the licence account in our lookup, Tote scored a full 1 on the licence check. You can see the newest licences and their domains on our new bookmakers tracker.

Payments and withdrawal times

Deposits start at £10 by Visa or Mastercard, the only two methods our research records. No maximum deposit is recorded.

The overall stated window of 72 to 120 hours put Tote at 0.4 on our payout check, and with no PayPal recorded it scored 0 on that check. If payout speed is your priority, compare it with the faster bookmakers on our fast withdrawal betting sites page.

Tote’s sportsbook FAQ says most markets offer cash out, shown in a Cashout tab in the betslip, and that partial cash out is available. It describes Bet Builder as an accumulator-style bet with all markets in the same match, available on football. We did not find a BOG promise in our sources. The closest thing is the Tote Guarantee, which pays at least starting price on Tote Win bets, and the win part of each-way bets, on UK and Irish races. That is a racing feature for existing customers rather than a sports one.

App and support

Our research records apps for iOS and Android. Support covers live chat, stated as 24/7, email at [email protected] with replies recorded as taking up to a few days, and a UK freephone number, 0800 032 8188.

Responsible gambling tools

Tote lists deposit limits, reality checks and self-exclusion, with links to BeGambleAware and GamCare. As a GB-licensed site it is covered by GAMSTOP.

How Tote scored

Five equal checks, each 0 to 1, and the result is 1 plus four times the average. See how the ratings work for the detail.
